Arif Smith is a multidisciplinary artist and educator. His work centers on diasporic citizenship and African-rooted performance practices, exploring Blackness, marronage, and intertextuality. Smith is also a member of Bomba con Buya, Iré Elese Abure, and Black Monument Ensemble.

Curator’s Notes

A multidisciplinary artist and educator, Arif Smith's work is primarily performance- and video-based and rooted in African spirituality. His steel sculpture "Arere" echoes some of the symbolism found in those sacred systems including Orisha worship.
