Arts + Public Life announces Never So Free: Black Queer Art + Assembly in Chicago, an exploration of the artistic legacies of queer, Black art-making spaces in Chicago.
Since early 2024, seven Chicago artists have been gathering for a series of salons, archival presentations, field trips and creative activations that affirm the critical role of dedicated spaces for queer Black artists.

Launched in 2011, Arts + Public Life (APL), an initiative of UChicago Arts at the University of Chicago, has been providing residencies for Black and Brown artists and creative entrepreneurs, arts education for youth, and artist-led programming and exhibitions. We believe our greatest achievements are our relationships, and we want to thank you for a decade marked by meaningful exchange and ambitious cultural production.
